Our Mission

The Massawippi Valley Health Centre is a community-owned health cooperative that provides general medical services to the Massawippi Valley community and surrounding areas.

Our aim is to provide our clients with the highest quality preventative and general practice medicine, along with allied health care services, in a friendly bilingual environment close to home and without long wait times.

FAQ

Is the Massawippi Health Centre private?

The Centre respects the Canada Health Act, which means that anyone who walks in the door can have access to a doctor if the doctor's schedule permits. This is the official definition of a public clinic. The doctors are paid by the Régie de l’assurance maladie Québec


What is the benefit of becoming a member?

A Co-op is owned by citizens, local businesses and organizations who are involved in its day to day operation. Ownership means buying 5 shares in the co-op for $10 each.


Why do I have to pay dues?

Dues cover, in part, the operating costs of the health cooperative such as rent, equipment, supplies and the salaries of the nurses, secretaries, manager and maintenance staff.


What is the total cost of membership?

  • There is a one time fee of $50 (5 x $10) to buy shares in the co-op.
  • Monthly dues of $8.70 plus taxes per month per adult ($104.40 plus taxes annually).
  • Children under the age of 18, living with a parent member, are free.
  • Students 18 to 23 years of age do not have to purchase shares and pay $4.35 plus taxes per month ($52.20 plus taxes per year) upon proof of school registration.

How can I make a donation to the centre?

The Fondation de la Vallée Massawippi was formed as a registered charity in support of the centre. You can make a donation the the foundation by clicking on the Donate Now icon at the bottom of the Home page or by contacting the foundation at fondation@csvm.ca.

Income tax receipts will be issued for donations of $10 or more.


How do you finance new equipment & technology?

New equipment and technology is paid for with monies collected through membership dues and community members and institutions who make generous donations. Additional revenues are obtained from from the rental of space to our various specialists.


Should I give up my family doctor when I join the clinic?

No, if you have a family doctor keep him or her. Think of the clinic as an additional source of health care services in close proximity to your home with minimal wait times.


Will I be treated at the clinic if I am not a member?

Non-members have access to the services of a doctor since the doctor is paid by Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec.

Once you have completed the forms you can return them to the clinic along with the $50 required to purchase your shares in the co-op.

The Foundation
